Miss Julie by August Strindberg is a naturalistic play set on Midsummer’s Eve, where the aristocratic Miss Julie and her servant Jean engage in a charged power struggle driven by class, gender, and desire. As their flirtation deepens, their social roles unravel, leading to manipulation, shame, and tragedy. The play explores themes of dominance, identity, and the illusion of freedom within rigid societal structures.
In this design, I focused on emphasizing the use of the central staircase as a key staging element, while also using the direction of sunlight to express the passage of time.
