Korean Sharmarnism
The film centers on a Korean shamanistic ritual (jesa), a ceremony performed to invite good luck for a newly bought car.In the film, the protagonist sets up a traditional offering in front of the car, including various foods, a pig’s head, and makgeolli (Korean rice wine).
Pig head
The director did not want to use a real pig’s head, which is traditionally used in Korean gosa (ritual) ceremonies.Through discussions with her, we decided to create a fake pig’s head and intentionally highlight its artificiality by using a variety of colors and patterns on its surface. I decided to shape the pig’s head using styrofoam.
Pig’s Head Fabrication Process
Shaped the base form by combining styrofoam half-spheres and cylinders.
Carved the assembled foam into the shape of a pig’s head.
Covered the entire surface with a thin layer of primer clay to refine the form and sculpted the eyes and nose.
Created the ears by folding sponge board and attaching them to the head.
Applied two shades of spray paint to establish the base skin tone.
Added texture and visual detail by layering rubber clay in various colors over the painted surface.
